Featured Montana Artists

We love supporting local artists

Each month we feature a different Montana artist working in mediums ranging from pen & ink, to paints, to encaustics, to photography, and more. Join us in being inspired by these impressive artists at our monthly Artist’s Receptions - watch for updates.

Let us know if you may be interested in being considered as one or our Featured Montana Artists. We’d love to hear from you and see your work.

The Spring Roses

April's Featured Montana Artist

The Featured Artists this month is a delightful mother/daughter duo. The mother part of this duo, Mona Rose, blends a love for her Montana heritage and beauty into her oil and watercolor paintings. She expresses this love in both realistic and impressionist styles. Mona is a Golden Palette member of the Montana watercolor Society and The Art Center group in Helena.

Cindy Rose, Mona’s daughter, is also a longtime member of The Art Center group. Her travels influence her favorite landscape and floral subjects, to paint in both watercolor and oils. Her studio in East Helena is called CeM Studio. Cindy is a signature member of the Montana Watercolor Society.

A Reception for the Spring Roses Show will be held on Friday, April 12th from 5-7pm.

4 Generations of Artists

March’s Featured Montana Artist

Sally Angove, a beloved local artist in Helena, is the matriarch that binds 4 generations of artists together. Angove, along with members of her extended family are showing a collection of their works here during the month of March. These artists range in age from 87 down to 8, and work in subject matters as diverse as their chosen mediums!

Sally's work has been shown throughout the region, and she is a signature member in the Montana Watercolor Society. Her favorite mediums are watercolors and acrylics. Sally's miniature paintings have been in shows from coast to coast, in Moscow and in London, so we are excited to have a few of her miniatures in this show! Sally also enjoys the simplicity and philosophy of Sumi-e, which is oriental brush painting.

The artistic legacy Sally has passed on extends through Sherrie Opitz, who enjoys photography, beadwork and drawing. One of Sally's grandchildren showing his work is Skyler Angove, who produces work under the name “Sky”. He is a largely self-taught artist with a focus on painting in a wide array of mediums, showing around the US and overseas. Other family members showing their art include; Aurora, Fauna, Violet, Max, and Sally's great-granddaughter, 8-year-old Alove.
